From the Principal's Desk
All school staff, including teaching, coaching and ancillary personnel, as well as visiting clergy, are undergoing awareness
training in order to further support students with allergy disabilities. Please assist our efforts by providing the school
with any medical information relevant to your child’s health.
Senior Parent-Teacher evening and subject selection for Yr 11, 2007 were held on Tuesday 20th June. Junior Parent-Teacher
evening and subject selection for Yr 9, 2007 will be held on Tuesday 27th June. We have extended the time to meet parent
demand for time with teachers. Remind your child to book interview times with as many teachers as possible. Subject selection
should be made on the basis of:
• Aptitude
• Attitude
• Attendance
For Year 11 (2007) subjects in particular, please be sensible in selection by choosing subjects and levels appropriate to
the student’s ability. Take particular care in selecting Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
There are many positives emerging from the reports for Years 12, 11 and 10 which have been handed out. Students should be
talking to Mr Blevin, our Careers Adviser, about the many tertiary opportunities available. The University of Notre Dame has
written to us explaining the opportunity of Early Entry or Pre-HSC acceptance at that institution.
Sports applications for 2007 are now available and can be obtained by contacting the front office on 9604 3333. Further
information is available from the Director of Sport, Mrs Joanne Kenny.
Congratulations to the Westfields Sports Parents and Citizens Association and Yeronga Uniforms upon their presentation of a
school blazer to Dani Samuels in recognition of her Commonwealth Games success.
Two demountables have been removed, and a further two will be removed in the near future, following the completion of our
Industrial Arts refurbishment. In the interests of students and staff safety, they will be removed after school or on the
weekend.
We have had many media visitors including several TV crews from Japan. The World Cup is upon us.
Congratulations to the many students who made State teams in Basketball, Softball, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Netball,
Hockey, Football. Good luck for future selection.
Westfields Sports was honoured on Friday 9th June 2006 by the visit of the Honourable Morris Iemma MLA Premier of New South
Wales. Premier Iemma was accompanied by Ministers Tripodi and Beamer. The purpose of the visit was to announce a further
$1.2 million funding of our new Social Sciences Block of six classrooms, as well as publicly acknowledging our academic and
sporting successes.
Kind comments by the Premier describing our school as the ‘cradle of Australian soccer’ are greatly appreciated. Many thanks
to the students and staff who made the visit so successful. A special thanks to the President of the P & C Association,
Mrs Turnbull, for her attendance.
I will be taking some Long Service Leave next term. Best wishes for a safe and enjoyable break.
