Westfields Sports SMS Messaging and Attendance
From Tuesday 19th July, 2005 parents will be informed by mobile phone message (SMS) each time their child is away from school.
At Westfields Sports, student attendance and punctuality are a high priority and it is our intention to build on the already effective attendance and punctuality pattern.
We know that students who attend regularly are more likely to be successful and safe at school.
To improve our attendance procedures, we will be informing parents/caregivers about any unexplained absences for their child.
The school expects parents/caregivers to contact the school by 9:00 am if they know their child is to be absent.
From Tuesday 19th July, an SMS message will be automatically sent to the mobile phones of parents explaining that our records show that their child is absent from or late to school.
An example of how the messages will read follows:
WS 10-2 records show JOHN SMITH is absent today, 19/7/05. Pls provide
reason by reply SMS or send note asap.
WS 10-2 records show JOHN SMITH arrived late today at 9:15, 19/7/05. Pls
reply by SMS or send note asap.
The message will arrive on the phone displaying the school’s special SMS phone number. Parents should store this number in their mobile phone under “Westfields Sports” so that when the message arrives, the parent is aware the message has come from the school.
Parents can then reply using SMS, by phoning the school office or by sending a note with their child on return.
We will seek feedback from parents about this system during the first two weeks.
