From the Principal's desk.

Westfields Sports has an obligation to enrol local students who live in area and sports students who are successful in meeting the set criteria. Out-of-area enrolments are neither sought nor accepted. In each of the last 7 years there have been in excess of 1100 applications for places at this school.

This years student numbers are 1570. We have room for our local and sports students but parents who use false addresses to gain entry for their children cause problems. This unacceptable behaviour causes problems with class sizes and rooming as well as limiting subject choices for students who are legally entitled to attend Westfields Sports. And what message are parents falsely enrolling students giving to their children - that it is okay to be untruthful?

These actions represent a serious threat to the continued development and excellence of our school.

I often talk about the acadenic advantage of education at Westfields Sports. Further proof of this advantage arrived this week with the Year 8 Ella (Literacy) and SNAP (Numeracy) results. Results Westfields Sports achieved the highest improvements in the State with 91.7% of students showing improvement in Mathematics and 86% improvement in English. These are truly remarkable statistics.

Thursday afternoon was a special time as Samantha Ennis and Elias Bou Obeid received the Premier's All-Rounder Awards for Academic Excellence. I was very proud to be in attendance at the Darling Harbour reception.

Congratulations to Ngoc Dang for her award of a 3-year Scholarship to the University of Technology, Sydney in IT. The scholarship is valued at $36,000 and again confirms the benefit of our students applying for cadetships, traineeships and scholarships.

Good luck to Scott Jamieson as he leaves to take up an apprenticeship with English Premier League Club. Bolton Wanderers.

I have written to all Year 7 parents inviting them to the first meeting of the Parents and Citizens Association for 2005. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the School Library. Please join us.
