From the Principal's Desk
Welcome back to a very busy and important term. Years 10 and 11 have completed their half-yearly examinations, and it is
time for students to build upon strengths and address areas of concern immediately. The Higher School Certificate timetable
has arrived, and this information is of interest to numbers of our academically accelerated students in Years 11 and 10, as
well as to all Year 12 students. Students are coming to discuss the possibility of undertaking the Pathways Program, whereby
the HSC is spread over Year 12 and Year 13. This valuable strategy should only be considered after careful consideration
and school/family discussion.
The holidays were very busy, with many students and staff representing the school at ANZAC Ceremonies in our local community:
Smithfield RSL Commemoration Sunday Service
Samantha Canhao, Piper Scott Allan, Myself
Smithfield RSL ANZAC Day Service
Samantha Canhao, Piper Scott Allan, Captain Anne Nguyen, Myself
Canley Heights RSL ANZAC Day Service
Vice Captains Jenna Cullen and Justin Turnbull, Mr Cherry.
Congratulations to the students involved. Included as an addition to Westnews is a copy of the speech delivered by Jenna and
Justin, which prompted a very favourable letter to the Editor in our local paper.
A big thank-you is due to Mr Rogers and the History Faculty for our own very successful ANZAC Ceremony at school. The four
'Diggers' were very proud and appreciative of the respect accorded them by our assembled students.
Department of Education and Training staff undergo Anaphylactic Awareness Training over the coming months. We need your
assistance by informing us of any information about your child's medical condition that we should know of. We have canteen
policies in operation, and students will be made aware of potential problems.
I have received great feedback from parents and students about the Languages/Baseball Tour of Japan. How many schools send
their HSC Languages students on such a wonderful and rewarding educational experience? Thanks Ms Zanet, Ms Cameron and Mr
Donaldson for giving up your holidays. Westfields Sports is indeed a special school.
