From the Principal's desk.
It was both a pleasure and an honour to have Fairfield City Mayor Lalich at the senior assembly to present Level I and Level II Awards as part of our Student Welfare Program. Mayor Lalich presented Level I Awards to Evan Berger
and Dani Samuels. Level II Awards were awarded to Jan Elias, Kristy Heathcote, Steven Burt, Jenna Cullen, Stephen Du, Ashlea Erak, Samantha Eshou, Jayde Nelson, Sean Ireland, Phouttha Phabmixay, Luke Kovacic, Chanel Stanley, Laura McArthur and Tim McGowan.
Congratulations to the students upon their efforts and achievements across so many areas of school life – Academic, Service and Sport. Thank you to the parents’ for their support and attendance. And of course, things do not just happen – well done Ms Baker, Ms Ung and Mr McCourt.
Congratulations to Mr Traslavina of the ESL/Language staff on being awarded a scholarship from the University of Salamanca in Spain to undertake the “Course of Literature and Cinematography” in Spain and Hispanic America in July of this year. Mr ‘T’ as he is affectionately known is hoping for excellent results from his Year 12 Spanish students.
The Department of Education and Training and Integral Energy launched a new sponsorship arrangement at Westfields Sports. The many guests included DET’s Director-General Andrew Cappie-Wood and Integral Energy’s CEO Richard Powis were just ‘knocked over’ by the function. Our School Captains Chloe and Jeffrey, Hospitality students, members of the Student Representative Council, Basketball Program members, Year 11 Dancers – but the biggest stars were the Year 7 students who made a very polite, well-mannered and wonderfully enthusiastic audience. Well done. An interesting three visitors were principals from the Victorian Department of Education who are looking at establishing a sports school in Melbourne. It is probable that the Victorian Minister for Education will visit Westfields Sports in the near future.
Applications for 2006 sports entry are now available. The office has forms and advice if required.
The Parents and Citizens Association has approved for sale through the uniform shop a new school bag featuring wheels and an extendable handle. This initiative will assist students with lots of books, sports gear and other equipment. The cost of the embroidered bag is $50.00
Scott Jamieson returned from signing with English Premier League front-runners Bolton Wanderers to present a jersey signed by the first team in appreciation of Westfields support for his development. Thanks Scott.
