Welcome back to a very important term - a term in which sound groundwork should be established for the forthcoming examinations. I have written to each familyof Year 10 students to give ideas and documents which will support planning for study and assessments. I hope the material is valuable recent calls have suggested that it is well received.
------A special thank you to the school captains, vice captains and senior prefects upon their contributions to the observance of Anzac Day at Smithfield and Canley Heights RSL Clubs. Calls and letters praising their involvement continue to arrive at the school.
------I would draw your attention of Year 12 parents to the 10% on Top Program being offered at school. This is a program which aims to support HSC students by offering a weekly homework and study centre where teachers are available to assist students. Lessons will be subject specific as well as focusing on skills such as essay writing, time management, effective study and examination techniques. Forms have been sent out and further information is available from Mrs Coroneo, Head Teacher of History.
------I would invite you to the school on the 6th June 2001 to discuss the Annual Report. The meeting will commence at 7pm. Further, I would invite parents of Year 7,8, and 9 students to attend the next P&C meeting on Wednesday 23rd May. Mr Freer the Head Teacher of English will talk about the English Faculty and Mr Plummer will talk about a program by which parents can assist in improving the reading skills of their children. I look forward to meeting you there.
------Congratulations to all teachers who gave up their holidays to give tutorials and take students on a very successful netball tour of Malaysia.

Term 2 is a busy term for exams, assessments and reporting to parents. Students will be receiving results from testing in the next few weeks and it is an excellent time to make changes where required.
------For students who require extra support, Saturday School tutorials commence on May 12 in Maths and English. Applications forms are available from me. If parents would like to discuss the progress of their children, before Parent Teacher evenings in June, please contact the school.
------For the benefit of senior students in particular, I would like to restate the school's policy regarding absence from assessment tasks and exams. In the event of sickness and misadventure, students are required to present a medical certificate on the first day back after missed tasks. Failure to do so will incur a penalty. Students are advised in their assessment booklets to inform the school if they are unable to attend assessments and exams.
------It is a requirement of the Board of Studiesand this school that no student is in possessionof a mobile phone during exams ans assessments. Please assist in this regard.
------On Sunday 27th May, the Rowinf students and parents will join Lansvale Sports Club in hosting a BBQ at Strong Park, Chipping Norton. This is a greaty opportunity to sample rowing in specialised craft under the guidance of our talented rowers. See Ms Borkowski for further details. ----------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------------------------Mrs Wilson

A new set of wooden steps to the oval area was built towards the end of Term 1 at the schools expense. This has facilitated access and lessened the danger of slipping down the steep slope.

NSW Futsal Championships
Recently Westfields Sports entered 4 teams into the 2001 Futsal Regional Championships that were held at the Centenial Stadium in Minto. The U/14 Boys team, despite being undefeated had an administrative error them miss out on the semi-finals. The U/16 Boys after a great run, lost the elimination final due to a horrific injury list. The Open Boys played very well and lost a close semi-final against Miller. The most successful team of the championship was the U/16 Girls, who won the final 8-2 against Eliderslie who had been the championships three years running. The girls continued their success by winning the State Championships at the E.G Whitlam centre. Well Done!
