WESTFIELDS Sports High School has added another trophy to its already crowded mantelpiece and it has the girls open softball team to thank
for that.
A miraculous come-from-behind performance in the final of the NSW Combined High School state knockout saw Westfields overcome arch rivals
Northern Beaches Secondary College.
Down 7-1 at the top of the second innings, the Westfields girls fought their way back from the depths of defeat to snatch a narrow 8-7
victory.
The victory avenged the heartbreak of last year's campaign, one that saw Westfields knocked out of the tournament in the final by their
Northern Beaches opponents.
A mix of junior and senior students all contributed, but the standout performances of three particular girls didn't go unnoticed.
Year 10 student Bianca Abrahams was exceptional with the bat, involved in seven out of the eight runs in the final, an effort that saw her
named the team's most valuable player.
Pitcher Karla Davidson was sublime in the last three innings, shutting down the Northern Beaches batters with some fast and accurate
pitching.
Ashlea Abbott, in year 11, was another in good form with the bat in
