A final that was much anticipated. Our preparation throughout the weeks leading up really had the girls focused and determined to get the
reuslt they have worked so hard for.
The opening 10 minutes of the game had both teams testing the defensive four and it seemed our girls were going to have to work very hard
to overcome the high pressure defending of the hills team.
Alanna Kennedy opened the deadlock with a calm finish after Helen Petinos did well to get beyond her defender and play a well
weighted pass across the face of goal.
The second goal came as a bit of a surprise as Helen was clever enough to nick the ball off the Hills keeper and place the ball into an
unguarded goal. The girls went into the much needed break 2-0 and were not playing great football but were making a huge effort to win the
ball quickly when they lost possession which was taking it's toll.
Tracking runs, passing players on and a lack of group defending were problems for the girls as they used too much energy working hard when
they didn't need to.
After the break, things did not quite pick up as hoped and Hills took 10 minutes to peg one back after a lucky break saw the Hills striker
1v1 against Georgia. The battle was being lost in midfield as Hills started to gain some momentum so a quick re-shuffle of players gave the
likes of Stephanie Haim and Helen Petinos to become more involved in the game.
The last 20 minutes of the game saw our girls produce some very high quality football and the results showed as they put away three more
goals with some very calm finishing from Stephanie and Helen and a super diving header from Alanna Kennedy.
Renee Krstanovska and Georgia Rowntree displayed remarkable hands and were superb in goals. Our defensive players of Madison
Burgin, Adrijana Cirjak, Cayla White, Alex Huynh and Sam Proctor did remarkably well to contain the quality of the Hills attack.
The midfield battled well with the likes of Candace Sciberras, Melissa Caceres, Sam Huynh and Alanna Kennedy and our attacking
combinations of Lauren Vosota, Patricia Charalambous, Stephanie Haim, Helen Petinos and Amy Harrison left the likes of the
coaching staff and the crowd speechless.
After the game being a battle at 2-1, the girls showed that they can go that extra gear. The linking up in the final third was so impressive
to watch with the quality of finshing to match. The pure determination and desire to not conceed was evident from the backline and the
composure on the ball in midfield with players expressing themselves with confidence suggested the quality that is still yet to come as this
young team develops. The crowd definately got their money's worth with comments that complimented the talent of girl's football and the
high standard it has in this country today. Strong performances tonight and from all the girls throughout the entire Errea Trophy season got
them to this position.
Well done and congratulations! Player of the Tournament - Stephanie Haim
Player of the Final - Alanna Kennedy
Half time it was 2-0, and full time 5-1.
