KRISTIANA Manu’a has her sights set on playing for Australia and hopes to dominate the state netball courts this year.
Kristiana, 16, of Greenfield Park, was recently selected in the NSW under-17 representative netball team and has previously captained the Australian Schoolgirls team.
Manu’a is this week’s Fairfield Advance Junior Sports Star, sponsored by Rebel Sport.
The goal defender and goal keeper said she had undergone a rigorous selection process for the NSW team which involved three days of trialling and training with a squad.
“In two weeks we are going to Tasmania to play all of the other states and there will be selection for the Australian under-17 squad,” Kristiana said.
“Last year we went down by two to Victoria, so hopefully we will take it out this year.”
Kristiana started playing netball at nine and within two years was selected in a Liverpool representative side.
This year she will also represent Liverpool Netball Association in its representative NSW State League division three competition.
As well as her representative commitments, Kristiana hopes to dominate in the school netball competitions.
Today she will trial for the Sydney South West team which will play in the Combined High Schools Competition later this year.
“To be selected in the CHS team is another one of my goals for this year,” she said.
Kristiana said her ability to read the game and know where the ball was going was what stood her out from other players.
She said she hoped to one day play for the Sydney Swifts and the Australian Diamonds.
