Aim
The main aim of the Hockey Program at Westfields Sports is to
provide a safe and enjoyable environment for our athletes, to improve their individual skills in hockey as well as
developing an awareness of belonging to a tight knit group.
The program provides opportunity
for students to develop knowledge in hockey, also allowing opportunities for personal growth, effect development and leadership within this group and throughout the school.
Westfields Coaches also have links to teams and clubs in the wider Hockey community, assisting students with external
support.
Courses Offered
Year 7and 8 Sport
Enrichment.
Year 9 and 10 Applied Sport - Hockey
Open Squads - Male and Female.
Course
Structure
Sport Enrichment is offered four periods each week, (Monday and Thursday periods 0 and 1).
Within this subject there are practical and theretical components based on the principles of hockey that are taught,
practiced and assessed.
Applied Sport - Hockey is taught four periods a week. Within this course there is greater emphasis on advanced
skills and knowledge, as well as tactical awareness and strategic play.
The theretical component includes units on psychology, nutrition,
hockey specific training principles, self analysis, sports injuries as well as completing video analysis
activities.
The Open Squad will train with Applied Sports Group. Both male and female athletes train together, providing for variety,
strength and discipline in skills, knowledge and game play. The students train on grass on the Oval at the rear of the School,
and will also be training on the small area of synthetic hockey pitch once this area is completed by November 2006.
For full synthetic field trainings, the group is taken to either Moorebank or Penrith turf complexes.
Strength / weight training will also be conducted using the school's own Weights Room for Applied Sports and Senior students
in the Hockey Program, under the supervision of Peter Cklamovski.
