Aim

The aim of the Westfields Sports Basketball Program is to provide a basketball development program, which teaches our students the skills and strategies of the game.

Courses Offered

Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment is primarily concerned with skill learning and development. Students in this course spend a considerable part of their training in repetition of the individual and small group fundamentals. Students are also engaged in speed work, skills assessment and physical testing.

Year 9/10 Applied Sport is an elective subject chosen for study over two years as a component for the School Certificate. It continues the process of skill development and places more emphasis on the building of team structures. Strength training and psychology enter the curriculum and speed work is increased to a further dimension.

Year 11/12 Applied Sport is an extension of the 9/10 course which entails regular participation in competitions and advanced skill, strength and speed development. Sport psychology is continued as is physical and skills testing. This is the pinnacle of our program.

Course Structure

Year 7/8 Sport Enrichment have three double period sessions per week concentrating on court work. Year 9/10 Applied Sport is offered for two double period sessions per week. Strength and Conditioning becomes an additional part of the program and some students will be required to attend an additional court session. Year 11/12 Applied Sport are required to attend up to four sessions per week, depending on the phase of year.
