Westfields Athletics Club athletes win 19 medals at the 2000 Pacific Schools Games.

Scott Burriss
Scott Burriss was one of the stars at the 2000 Pacific Schools Games held recently in Sydney. Scott won the gold medal in the under 20 Decathlon and set a new NSW and Australian Junior Record with a score of 6608 points.
Scott also picked up a Silver medal as a member of the NSW 4 X 400 metre relay. Robert Boateng was also one of the stars of the Pacific Games with his sprint double victory in the under 14 100 metres and 200 metres. Only 12 years of age at the time, Robert ran personal best performances of 11.70 in the 100m and 23.81 in the 200m. His performance in the 200 metres is a new Australian Schools record. Robert also picked up a Bronze medal in the 400 metres and another Gold medal in the 4 X 100 metre relay.

Year 12 student, Mark Dickson, was a sensation with his victory in the under 20 Hammer, throwing a personal best of 56.27 metres.
This was Mark's first ever Gold medal at a National or International tournament and a great testament to the effort he has put in over the years. Another year 12 student, Michael Ogilvie, won the Bronze medal in the under 18 hammer throw with a personal best throw of 57.62m. Also in the throwing events was new year seven student Dani Samuels, who is incidently in the Westfields Netball program, won Gold in the under 14 Discus and Bronze in the under 14 Shot Put.

Paul Stickler

Shannon Hill
Paul Stickler was impressive in the under 16 200 metres hurdles with a personal best performance of 25.85 and a Silver medal. Shannon Hill, who is currently world ranked in the womens 2000 metre steeple chase was magnificent in her Silver medal performance behind world junior record holder Melissa Rollison. Shannon run the fourth fastest open time ever recorded by an Australian; 6.47.45. Shannon also picked up a Bronze medal in the 1500 metres with another personal best performance of 4.30.64.

Joven Clarke
Sprinter Joven Clarke proved he is the fastest under 18 sprinter in the country when he won the Silver medal in the 100 metres. Only the South African athlete could beat him, and it was only by hundreths of a second. Joven also anchored the 4 X 100 metre relay to win Gold and ran the 4 X 400 metre relay for Silver.

Westfields walker, Kate Connolly, walked her 2nd best ever time in the 3000 metres walk for under 18's, taking the Silver medal in 14.35.86. And finally, Candice Pertel won the Bronze medal in the under 16 Pole Vault with a best junp of 2.60 metres.

As a School, Westfields won more medals at the 2000 Pacific Schools Games than all of China, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Willis and Futura Islands, Canada, New Caledonia, and the States of South Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory and ACT.
