Telented twins win six medals

WESTFIELD Sports High School year 10 students Kurt and Brad Jenner overcame swirling winds and persistent rain to capture six medals between them at the recent Sydney South West Regional Athletics Championships.
The Mt Pritchard twins starred at the championships with Kurt, 15, winning silver in the long jump along with four golds in the 100m, 4x100m relay, 200m and long jump.
With no pole vault event, Brad focused on the high jump where he captured the bronze.
The teenager said he was relieved to get on the podium in some of the worst weather conditions he’s competed in.
``It was so cold but I just tried to block that out just tried to keep warm,’’ Brad told the Advance.
``I’ve jumped a PB (personal best) before in the rain you have to be able to handle all different situations.’’
Kurt booked his place in this week’s State Athletics Championships with his five top two finishes.
In his first major competition since competing for Australia at the World Youth Games in Italy, Kurt said he was pleased to dust off the cobwebs after a three-week break.
``My performance was pretty good coming off a break and coming back from overseas at the World Youth Games,’’ he said.
``I didn’t really like running and jumping in the rain but I’m handling it a lot better.
``It’s the same conditions for everyone else so there’s no reason why you can’t perform at your best.’’
Kurt, the 2008 Fairfield Advance Junior Sports Star award winner, said he aimed to jump 7.10m in his pet long jump event.
