John Thornell will be aiming for personal bests when he competes in an amazing five events
at this week's Australian All Schools championships in Melbourne.
The Westfields Sports High School student will take part in the 100m, 200m, long jump, (under 18's)
high jump and 4x100 relay at the carnival which starts tomorrow and ends Sunday.

Thornell's hero is long jumper Jai Tautima, who won silver medal at the Sydney Olympics.
"He's really cool," Thornell, who who hopes to follow in Taurima's footsteps, said.
Thornell also said that as time progresses he thinks he will concentrate on the long jump.
For now though, he competes in five or six events, training before and after school,

six days a week.
The Year 12 student just after a State athletics championships where he won the 100m, 200m (record),
high jump, long jump and tripple jump. For those feats he also won the NRMA's HELP Award for the
athlete of the championships. "It's a highlight and an honour to receive the award,: Thornell said.
