Westfields Sports High School held an Anzac ceremony last week.
Principal Roger Davis said it was important for young people to mark Anzac Day as Australia is such a young country with a short history.
“It’s important for them to realise how futile war is, to make sure that the next generation does everything that they can so that we don’t have any further wars,” Mr Davis said.
“It was a very moving service and a thought provoking one. We don’t have Anzac Day to glorify war but to remember those that have fought at war and it’s because of their sacrifice we have the opportunity to live in a free country today.”
The ceremony included a poetry reading by student Jack Hardman, 14, and Smithfield RSL Sub-Branch senior vice-president Bill Cruwys and Jack Hardman also attended.
